Carnelian
Carnelian is a semi-precious birthstone for the month of July and the zodiac sign of Cancer (Jun 21 - July 22).
It’s a variety of chalcedony and member of the quartz family and its colour varies from red-brown to red-orange colours. This gemstone is found in India, Brazil and Uruguay. It has been named after the red-orange Kornel cherry.
Carnelian was believed by the Romans to be a stone of courage and in ancient Egypt, carnelian amulets were considered sacred. In Greece, it was considered a symbol of true love and wedding cameos were made with carnelian gemstones.
