Jasper
Jasper is one of the alternative (mystical) birthstones for the month of October.
The name "jasper" is derived from the Greek for "spotted stone". It's a variety of chalcedony and it often contains organic material and mineral oxides which give it interesting colours, bands and patterns. It's found in a variety of colours - red, brown, pink, yellow, green, grey/white and in shades of blue and purple.
Jasper is considered a protective gemstone.
