Rose quartz is the semi-precious birthstone for the month of January and the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 19).
Rose quartz is perhaps one of the most sought after variety from the quartz family. The color in rose quartz is the result of several impurities including titanium, manganese, and iron. Most of the rose quartz's world supply today comes from Brazil.
Rose quartz has been considered a symbol of beauty and love, and has been used in religious objects, ornaments, statues, figurines and jewellery of course. Quartz gets its name from an old Saxon term, "querklufterz", which means cross vein ore.
