Turquoise
Turquoise is the semi-precious birthstone for the month of December and the zodiac sign of Sagittarius (Nov 22 - Dec 21) as well as the 11th wedding anniversary gemstone.
So named because it was initially brought to Europe by way of Turkey, this stone is one of the first gems to be used in jewellery. Turquoise was considered by ancients to be a sacred stone, protective against all manners of evil and ill health.
This beautiful gemstone is mined in Iran and the southwestern United States. A gift of turquoise represents friendship and good luck.
What is reconstituted turquoise? It contains real turquoise as well as resins and occasionally dyes. It provides a more cost-effective substitute to a more expensive genuine turquoise.
