My top 7 jewellery trends for Spring/Summer 2012
March 7, 2012
Now that spring is just around the corner, I’m looking forward to the warm weather and designing new jewellery inspired by the season. So I’d like to share some of my favourite jewellery trends emerging this Spring/Summer season. And show you some examples of my work featuring these new elements. I hope that with all of these great options, you'll find a favourite style you like to wear this spring.
1. Romantic florals
Expect to see a lot of jewellery pieces inspired by flowers – from roses and daisies to buds and petals. Florals will come in a variety of forms such as pendants, beads and charms. They will also come in a variety of materials - fabric, pearl, stone, metal and resin. I love designing jewellery pieces with floral elements as they look ultra feminine and romantic.
2. Water world
Fascination with ocean life will be especially great this year. Expect to see a variety of jewellery pieces inspired by the underwater world. You’ll see jewellery creations made with shells, pearls, corals and mother of pearl beads. You will also see a variety of pendants and charms shaped as star fish, sea horses, shells and other ocean life. This kind of jewellery will look especially amazing in the summertime.
3. Colour Blue
I also have great news for those who love the colour blue as it’s predicted to be a very important colour this coming season. So expect to see a dazzling range of blues, from aqua and azure to turquoise and navy. Complimenting colours such as green and purple will also be a good choice to enhance this blue trend.
4. Pearls rule
Pearls continue going strong as one of the key jewellery elements. Pearls will be fashionable in a variety of different colours, sizes and will work well on its own or in combination with shells, mother of pearl beads, glass, semi-precious stones and metal findings. Pearls will rule in many colours and combinations.
5. Layered look
Layering with multiple chains and beaded strands is another popular trend this spring. You can either get one necklace with multiple layers or layer on a number of individual necklaces. This is a great way to make a statement and jazz up a simple outfit. When layering on individual necklaces, make sure they work together and have different lengths. Layer on and have fun with it!
6. Retro style
The look of the days past will continue to be very popular. Expect to see more of the beautiful retro elements such as cameos, tassels, lockets and metal filigree findings. They look so vintage; you’ll think these beautiful pieces have been beautifully preserved from the Victorian times. I love this style as retro jewellery designs look especially romantic and elegant.
7. Ethnic motives
Do you love traveling and exploring different cultures? Then you’ll definitely love this look. Ethnic jewellery incorporates elements from different cultures and exotic countries. Some popular influences include African, Oriental and Native American cultures. This style often uses natural stones such as turquoise, coral and agate as well as wooden and shell beads. Embrace the world by wearing tribal jewellery.
Until next time,
Irina K.
